i have an 89 toy pickup with a 22RE. I want to put a new exhauast system on it (cat-back). I want it to have a nice deep sound, not too loud, but a nice growl. I definately don't won't it to sound like a rice burner. I know it won't sound like a big V-8, but there has to be something that will give it a nice throaty sound. Maybe a flowmaster 40 or 50? Thanks!
A broken part is the perfect excuse to UPGRADE!!!!!!

I had the same concern about sound on my 22RE ('94 Pickup) when I got my exhaust replaced, I wanted something with a little rumble, but nothing that sounded ricey. I ended up getting a 50 series flowmaster with a single outlet and from the cat back, I replaced all the factory pipes with 2.5" pipes and I have no chrome tip or anything like that. I am very satisfied with the sound, its not too much at all, I gained a slight amount of power/pickup and overall I am happy with how it turned out. I haven't had time to look and see how much work I'd have to do to use DEADLYPEACE's idea, but when time is on my side, I plan on checking that out too.

Here what i did just recently:
installed DynoMaxx Super Turbo muffler, had the muffler shop custom bend and "Y" dual 2" pipes to come out the rear. Then I ended the each pipe with a MONZA Pacesetter Exhaust Tip. Sounds great, and I am very happy about it, no rice burnner crap! I think the tips helped alot. Look 'em up and see what you think.
Later, installed the K&N charger and gave it an even better Throaty sound, especially when you get on it. But can't say it was worth the price though. Good Luck!
