Alright, im a struggling college student and the budget is tight. I like to offroad my Toy. I have a 90' 4cyl reg cab. I wanna put 32'' BFG muds on with a PA 2'' body lift. To help the power 4.56's. Its my daily driver so i still need some power. How does this sound to you guys. Should i be good on power and stuff?

That's a good start. The only thing that I would change is instead of 4.56 gears is a set of 5.29's. This will help out on your power plus up your top speed. I was pegging the neddle (110 mph) and still picking up a little speed on my 85 when I first changed my gears over and still had my 32 tires. Plus if you ever decide to go to a larger size tire you'll already be set for them without having to regear the diffs again.

Thats interesting, how about 4.88's? So when im drivin up mountain passes and stuff, even with the ol 4-banger and 32's the 4.88's would still give me enough pullin power to get me up a hill? Pep around town? I just dont wanna lose much power cuz i dont have a lot to begin with!

I know how the poor college student life is, I'm certainly in that boat right now also. I think your idea sounds good... but, if you are poor I think you could go without regearing for now. I just put a 2" PA lift on my '94 Xtra Cab Pickup w/ 22RE and I also just got some 33x12.50 BFG A/T's. I didn't end up losing much power at all, definitely not the amount I thought I would. I did the Airbox mod and got a cat-back exhaust, a K&N drop-in filter, and Rancho RS5000's. Otherwise, I'm basically stock.

4.88 will work too. They will work for up too if you don't plan going over 34" tires.

Hey NCSU, how is your power goin on long hills, I live in Colorado and drive mountain passes all the time and find myself in 3rd gear near the top, and i have 31's! Also, the high altitude takes away some HP but still.

the power going up long hills isn't too bad. I mean, I do lose power slowly by the time I am done ascending. If I'm going down the highway at 65-70 and start up a long hill, I will usually be borderline 4th/5th gear, could go with either one. You do have me on the altitude though, my truck has never been above 4,000 feet... thats about all we have here. I wouldn't rule out regearing, I would just wait on it if you are struggling for money. I didn't know what to expect after the lift and tires, but I'm glad I didn't go ahead with regearing before doing all of that, because I can tolerate what I've got for now. Maybe once I graduate and get a job, I will consider regearing.

I do from 70-80mph on long hills depeding on how steep they get with 35's and 5.29 gears. I do some time have to stift into 4th on the real long or real steep ones.
I agree with NCSU too. You could get away without regearing for now. I ran my 32's for about a year and a half before I regeared. It did ok with the stock 4.10 gears.
