Yes ive done this i also have a 3.0, It does add a lil rumble and since u removed it there is a less restriction for the exhaust, i think it added increase, cause it felt like it.

i gutted my cat because it got all broken up inside so i just broke all the rest up and emptied it out. i would not gut the cat though. it is not worth it. i would save it for emmissions and run a straigt pipe instead if you dont want to run a cat. i dont have one right now and i really didnt notice anything.

;D why?! Is it plugged? If not, you're not going to gain anything except for more bad air. Put a hi-flow cat on or don't do nothin'. It's on there for a reason. Later...

If you remove your cat, your o2 sensor will go to crap and your gas milage will drop (alot) and your performance will drop as well. You can get your cat tested by any good muff shop. Anything with 1lb or less of backpressure is great. If you need to change it I recommend a magnaflow stainless freeflow cat. They add a little rumble and performance and will keep it legal.

1) Cleaning the cat will result in an ugly, "tinny" sound you won't like. It won't help the gas all that much. Just don't do that. 2) Replacing the cat with straight pipe will increase your milage a little and give you a little more power. I suggest going with a K&N air filter at the same time, if you haven't already. I gained 1-2 mpg doing this. 3) Contrary to what others say, removing the cat WILL give you an advantage even if it's not clogged up. Plus, something they probably didn't think about, is you will then be able to drive in high, dry grass or brush without as much risk of starting a fire. Pipes run cooler than cats, simple. 4) I have had no trouble with the O2 sensor, or any other problems with the exhaust, due to removal of the cat. It does sound considerably louder...but maybe that's the glass-pack I put on. =D 5) Catalytic converters do not help the environment, they help the air. When you're done with your car or cat, all the pollutants are in the cat...just in a solid form, not gas. 6) Keep your cat so you can throw it back on for city driving and if you ever have to get an inspection.... Oh by the way, did I mention that sometimes the best ways of doing things are also illegal? ;D

;D Who lifted up the rock for ya' to crawl out?! I'm sitting here in 2003, astounded by what I'm hearing. Haven't you learned anything? I'll address your points:
1. Agreed.
2. A K&N MAY help. No guarantees. No change on my ride.
3. This is where I have a problem. I've parked in many grass/brushy areas & have never had a problem. Urban legend/Wives tale. You call it. You want to get your cats higher, get bigger tires!!! As I am a PA licensed emissions tech. and have 2 children, I have a personal issue w/modifying cats. I have been to many clinics/classes to keep my license. I have personally witnessed demonstrations that PROVE that cats DO NOT hurt performance to the point where you'd notice. Don't believe me, check out Car Craft or Hot Rod. Both have done extensive research on cats. There are numerous aftermarket cats out there that will help you @ emissions time & not hurt performance ONE BIT!!
4. Still livin' in the 60's ??
5. WHAT!?!? Cats are a "recycle friendly" item. I'd much rather have 1 item to dispose of than none.
6. IF you are promoting/advocating that doing things illegaly are accepted/tolerated, then YOU WILL NO LONGER BE ALLOWED ON THIS BOARD!. This is your ONE notice. Later...

;D Injohneer, I realize I acted harshly to #6 in your post. I apologize for that. Here's why: recently a conservation/activist group in a major state used posts on a BB to get trails closed. They were able to give the judge "proof in writing" that offroaders are irresponsible & don't care about the land/air. I DO NOT want this to happen. Especially here. Just realize that, once you click "post", what you've said is public record & can be used by anybody, anywhere. Later...

Bottom line, unless you have the money to buy your own trails to ride(and will let us all ride with you), polluting or loud exhausts are dumb. Don't be selfish and get "our" trails closed down. You don't even have to go on public trails. Just riding around town with an obnoxious exhaust is enough to project a bad image to people who don't have a clue which are in fact the same people who are pushing for land closure.
