I am due for a new fuel filter, but I've noticed that it seems like it is in a difficult spot to access easily. Is it easiest to take the starter off or can that be avoided? Any suggestions on a quick/easy way of doing it?

With your body lift it shoudnt be that bad. I have a 3" and its pretty easy to get to. just reach in through the wheel well and go at it. You may cuss a little. But remember in the end its not that bad.

Are all the filters out there on the market essentially the same? I didn't know if there are any filters to avoid or to get in particular, if so, which?

You can never go wrong when you buy right from toyota.

I like fram filters. Puralator is another good one. When you buy from the dealer you better grit you teeth, bend over and grab your ankles. All though a filter shouldnt be that bad.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the dealership... that was actually why I asked. They wanted $36.95 for a fuel filter, but I found that Advance Auto had Purolator filters for $13.99, so I'd rather pay for the significantly cheaper one. But, I didn't know if it would actually make much of a difference. I usually just get aftermarket filters, but stick with dealership mechanical parts, etc...

Whoa, that's more expensive than i thought it would be. Besides toyota stuff, i usually use wix filters. They're good, but also might cost a little more. I don't personally what the big difference is (besides price) on a fuel filter. I know you should always buy oil filters from toyota, but that's a different story.
