I agree with 4x4banger, unhook the tube and run the speakers. Your deck can't power the tube enough anyway. Save your money and get an amp. I'm running an amp under the passanger seat and two 12 inch subs in the back. Takes up the whole back seat. THey are in individual boxes, so when I need the space, I just remove them. It's no big deal. There is plenty of room between the front seats and the boxes, but if you slide the seats back far enough, they line up flush. It sounds GREAT!!!! It's also a nice massage. Makes the long trips enjoyable.

alright, sounds good... I am going to check out amps on eBay tonight. I went and got a better set of 6.5's yesterday and I think I'll finally get around to installing them by the beginning of next week... I hope.
What did y'all use to cut through the door when installing the speakers?

Use a hole saw, because you want a clean cut. Also, don't rely on Toyota's particle board door skin to hold the speaker. I mean, don't just screw right into it. Hopefully your speakers came with clips to screw into. If you cut through the right spot (as shown in pictures earlier) you don't cut through any metal.

Running the tube off the h/u is useless. Door speakers would use the power more effieciently. Make a decision between the dash and the door spkrs. Take the door.

Here's what I've finally decided...
I am going to take my dash speakers out for now and use those hookups for my soon-to- be installed door speakers
Until I have money for an amp, I am going to continue running the bass tube off of the H/U because I've always thought it sounded good for not having an amp.
Once I have the amp, I'll probably install the other set of 6.5's that I have in the back compartments.
Once exams are over, I'll get around to the installation and I'll post some pics

Are there hole saws big enough to drill the hole for 6.5" speakers? I didn't see any that large at Home Depot. Any other suggestions on tools to use to cut the hole in the door panel?

I almost always use a rotozip for installing anything.no matter if I am cutting door panels or raw boxes. That is pertty much the standard now.

Thanks, I had a Dremel tool a few weekends ago, but I was unsatisfied with it so I returned it. Now, I'm back to knives, razorblades and a drill for cutting. I should probably look into one of those Rotozips

Well there are hole saws big enough, but if you don't have one do something else. A hole saw that size would probably cost you over $40. I don't have a rotozip, but i am aware of them, and i bet it'd do just fine. Hopefully your speakers came with a template for the hole to be cut. By the way, did your speakers come with mounting clips? You should use them, and it is a lot easier to put them in if you don't mangle the panel by cutting with the wrong tool.

Yeah, they did come with clips and a template. The template has a 5" inner hole for the speaker to sit in the door panel. I actually did find a 5" hole saw on the Northern Tool and Equipment website, so I may just go pick one up this week. But, I do plan on using the clips and trying to cut a smooth hole. The speakers I have a Sony Xplod's... got them extremely cheap at Wal-Mart, they were mispriced.

Good deal. I run alpine's myself, but Sony Xplod's aren't too shabby. Hope the install goes well. Post some pics when possible.

Yeah, Sony's weren't my first choice, but I got the 3-way 6.5's for $20... can't beat that!

That's a sweet deal. Mine are 6.5" alpines for $120. Hope you bought 2 pairs so you can do the side compartment install as well. Damn that's cheap.

Yeah, I did get 2 pairs. I don't know why they were priced that way, but I'm certainly not complaining. Same think happened with my last truck, I got some 6.5 Pioneers (3-way) for $10 at Best Buy the day after Christmas... I guess alot of it is being in the right place at the right time. But, I am going to try to have to front speakers done by the end of the weekend, so I'll try to get some pics posted once they are done. I am not sure when I'll get around to doing the back.

Just thought I'd let y'all know that I finally installed my speakers yesterday and wired them up today. I like the way they sound, they are alot more clear than the little 4" Pioneers I used to have. I am putting some pics on my website (on page 5 of my site), so check them out: www.cardomain.com/id/mndanielsncsu
