Has anyone done this on their truck? I have seen some pics of this on various sites and I am considering installing some speakers on my doors now. Anyone have pics of their install or any general thoughts about it?

I have done this to my 1994 toyota pick-up, it was very easy, all I used was a razor blade to cut out the hole and screwed the speaker right into the door shell. The only problem you might run into is the speaker misght be too thick and hit the window. This was much better than having the speakers in the dash, because it rattled too much in the dash

Yea chances are that the speaker will hit the window. What u can do is make a Spacer out of MDF (speaker box material), its soild at HOME DEPOT

Will the speakers hit the window if I have the vent window style door? I am not sure, but it seems like that wouldn't. I have nice speakers in the dash and an 8" sub in the rear, but as is the case most of the time, I just want to keep making things bigger and better... I am sure everyone knows how that goes with modifying trucks.

i put polk audio 6.5"s in my door. It was really simple...take off your door panel....a few screws and it pops off. then if you look to the lower right hand side of your door(talking about the drivers side, but passenger side is same just on left) you will see a opening or hole that is already there. I put mine in that hole . I just cut a hole in the door panel with a reciprocating saw.and just lined it up and screwed it in..I'll get some pics soon so you can see them. The hole is away from the window completely and is in a great spot...they sound great also.

I have vent windows as well and had no trouble with my fitting my 6.5's. However i notice that i kick them a lot on accident when getting in my truck because they're right at foot level. My Alpine's have a pretty tough grill, but my last set didn't and they looked pretty bad when they got dented. If you're more careful than me you'll be fine, but its just something you might want to think about.

Anyone know of speakers that might be too deep? I read on a site on cardomain.com of a guy who had to put a spacer in b/c his speakers had really big magnets. Also, I just did alot of updating to my personal site...(but its still not finished) www.cardomain.com/id/mndanielsncsu

vent windows dont make any difference. Some 6.5's are too deep even with spacers, such as alpine "r" class 6.5's . If you want to be able to use higher grade speakers go with kickpanels in the floor. If youre running mudders at highway speeds, the kick panels will make all the difference in the world due to the more direct imaging. 4's in the dash suck. Even good 4's which are hard to find cant rival a mid grade 6.5 just due to the mounting location. Dash mounts in the later model minis face down. Add that to your tire choice and you may not hear $%^. Atleast with 6.5's in the doors, the speakers are being shot into the seat instead of the floor.

;D Thanks for the info L8sho! Carlos, you learn something new everyday & that's the fun of it!! My Runner is dated 11/87. Things got real weird late '87 thru early '89. You can find all kinds of stuff . I personally wouldn't own a pickup/runner w/o vents. LOVE "EM!! Later...

Another cool mod you can do is what i did in my truck, but it only applies to ext cabs. I have 6.5's in my doors as well as 6.5's in the rear. I used the little side compartments in the back to mount some speakers. I just got some plexiglass and cut it to fit the compartments, then used a holesaw to cut the speaker hole. A little midrange sound from the back sounds pretty sweet as well.

Are the Pioneer 6.5's too deep? I have Pioneers in the dash and I am satisfied with them, plus they are priced well for what you get in my opinion. I do like the plexiglass idea, I have seen one truck that did what you did with plexiglass, except they used wood. I never thought of plexiglass though, the wood didn't look to sharp, but I am sure your idea does look good.
