I just got a 89 pick up. It is a 4cyl (22re) 5sp.
I am new to the Toyota side of things, so I need some opinions.
I want to get some bigger tires. Mainly a little wider, but I am not sure if the poor 22re can handle it. I am not looking for anything monsterous. 33" would be more than enough. I am worried I am going to kill my little truck doing it, or hurt it's performance. It already slows WAY down if hit with a strong head wind.
Does anyone have any experience with larger tires, and a stock 22re??
Thanks

To fit 33s just get a 2 or 3" body lift. To be able to move the tires with out severly huring the engine u need to regear the diffs. An it sounds that ur toyota is lack performance already. So i would say to install a header and open up the exhaust as well as the intake.

If you dont do a lot of muddin or stream crossing I would do the air box mod and get a K&N air filter. I did the air box mod and just cover the hole with duct tape if I do any muddin'. I have 31 11.50-15 all terrains and my rig gets around pretty good. I didnt go with 33's because I didnt want to regear to gain back the lost power. My next set will probbably be a set of 31 13.50-15s'. and do what carlos said.
