I've got an '86 4Runner with 22RE engine, IFS, auto transmission, and shift on the fly. I've been told by NWOR that no locker is available for my front diff. Does anyone know of any alternatives, or what mods I would have to make in order to be able to install a locker in my front diff? The issue seems to be the "shif on the fly". I could live without this feature, if I knew what would have to be done to enable me to install a locker.
I am planning to do a solid axle swap in the near future, does anyone know how this will effect the trany or the shif on the fly feature of it?
Thanks for any advice.

According to Randy's ring and pinion there area couple lockers available for the 7.5" diff. www.ring-pinion.com/products/product.aspAbout the whole shift on the fly thing, you have to determine wheter you truck has drive flanges (ADD) which means instead of hubs you have drive flanges and plastic hub covers, or auto hubs. Either way to run a locker you are going to have to convert to manual locking hubs. To do this you can use stock IFS manual locking hubs or aftermarket warns. For the drive flanges it is as simple as removing the drive flanges, the cone washer can be a pain but otherwise it is straight forword unbolt and bolt on procedure. The auto hubs will be different. I have no personal experience with them but from what I have gathered the auto hubs use different or no spacers and nuts or lock washers so you will have to get these from the wrecker with the hubs(cheapest route) or buy the kit from Downey or the parts from Toyota. Personally I would'nt bother if you are going to do an SAS in the future, instead buy a locker for that front axle since they are not interchangable. No an SAS won't effect the transfer, but if you want shift on the fly you will have to run an open diff and locked hubs. Driving with the hubs locked you will still be able to shift back and forth from 4wd to 2wd but running a front locker on the street with locked hubs is stupid and dangerous to say the least.

;D I'm on Sean's flight!! If you're serious about the SAS, don't throw your $$$ away on the IFS. Put it away & towards the final goal. Later...
