I have a 93 Toyota 4x4 V6 5spd Pickup.
I am wondering if anyone knows how it would do towing a small racecar. For now I only have a full size car trailor which in itself weights almost 1000lbs I bet, and then a 2000 lbs car such as a Datsun 240z.
To make matters worse, I am running 33s, 3" body lift, cranked bars and addaleafs.
What do you guys think? I am thinking maybe sell the toyota if it cant handle it, and get a 97 Ford F150. I know its a damn ford, but what can you do. One can be had for $5-6k.

Ok, what ur pulling i dont think its alot. U have a V6 so i think that if regear ur diff. u should be able to pull or load respectfully. but keep im might that u only have 150 horses so dont expect to have fast take offs with the trailer. BTW how often are u towing??

I would say the car would only get towed to as little as 2-3 events a summer, to maximum maybe 10. So 5 trips, probably 500 miles each.. 2500 miles a year. But that doesnt include moving the car around to get things done, and random things associated with those kinds of things.
Ive heard regearing can cost about $1000 total even if I do the work myself. Selling my truck, and getting a 97 F150 would cost about $2k more. Not sure what to do..
So towing 3000lbs as doable you think. What if I have to go over a grade? will i make it, or overheat and break down.

;D I think towing ANYTHING outside of a fiberglass paddleboat is insane w/a stock V6, stock gears & 33's. I've got almost the same set up(1" b/l) on my Runner & wouldn't consider towing my 2000# boat around the block!!! MAYBE, with trailer brakes, a load distributing hitch & 30's. Good luck!! Later...

alright i have a similar question. i have an 89 toy pickup 4x4 with a 22re and 5 spd. I want to know how big of a trailer i can pull with it. everything as far as the engine and suspension is stock, and i have 31s with stock gearing. i have a 14ft flatbed and i need to haul some motorcycles, fouwheelers and such. can it do it? it barely gets out of its own way empty, so i don't know about a trailer. thanks, later......

btw....the trailer is only 500lbs, so it's not an insane amount of weight. it's just when i load it down is what i'm worried about

With my 22re I tow my two 4x4 atvs (around 1100 pounds plus a 500 pound trailer). I have several boats weighing between 500 and 3000 pounds including trailers. I have actually rented a boat slip in a marina to keep from towing the big one. I would say anything around 1000 pounds is comfortable for these trucks. Anything more increases the pucker factor exponentially. Alot of people worry about power, when the real concern should be stopping power. There's nothing like being pushed through a stoplight by your trailer.

My advice is to take the money and regear both diff's so that you're back to stock ratio. I think the money would be much better spent on your toyota than another rig. Not anything against Ford, afterall, my wife drives one, just that if I was in your position I would regear before buying another vehicle. My 2cents -Chris

I have a 89 toy v6 that i use to tow my 3500# boat. I have 32's with stock gearing and it does just fine. It's not going to win any speed contests but it will get you there no problem. I have towed it many times over a very steep 5000ft. pass and never had overheating problems even with the ac on in the heat of the summer. As for slowing it down, toyotas have very large brakes for their weight so i have never felt unsafe towing this. Like i say it will be slower but it better than a ford. If any thing get a tundra.
