Well hopefully I'll be putting on 35's w/ 5.29's shortly.
I've got an auto tranny w/ 160k miles. What can i do to help make it last?
I plan on getting a tranny cooler. What type would best stacked or tube and fin? Any brand better than another?
Is synthetic fluid a good idea? If so what brand? I heard mobil one was bad for synchros. Would it be okay to just drain the pan and add synthetic or should I have the whole thing flushed?
Any other tips?
I know lots of questions. But once i pay for the lift and gears I'll be paying it off for a while and rebuilding the tranny would really suck. Later Dave

;D There are many articles on types of trans. coolers. This one, that one.... I say put on the biggest one that'll fit & hope for the best. Now, IMHO!!!!!!, I debated the synthetic fluid thing when mine had 110,000. I finally chose to stick w/regular for 2 reasons. #1, the trans. has always had this fluid & still works. #2, since it has a drain plug, I can change the fluid often enough that it won't possibly get burned up. I can do a whole trans. service for the cost of 2 qts. of Mobil 1. Keep in mind that autos are very bitchy units. Think of it this way: if you were fed Philly cheesesteaks you're whole life, how would you feel being switched to Tofu?!? Later...

Good point about cheesesteaks. It'll be a sad day if i ever have to choose tofu over one.
I sure wish all autos had that drain bolt. It took me three hours to change the fluid and filter in my car.
