I talked to the shop today about getting/installing a lift and gears. The main guy (the one who knows everything) was busy, so the guy I talked too wasn't too familiar w/ toyotas and asked a few things I wasn't 100% on, so i need a little advice.
I've got an 86 4 cyl 4runner w/ auto.
The ring gear sizes I need are 8" for rear and 7 1/2" for front. Right?
Also most kits for the truck list 2 versions- one with 2 1/2" ubolts and the other w/ 3 1/4". I tried measuring while on the phone with him but he kept getting me confused. Anyway, my leaves are 2 1/4" wide but I am not sure where to measure the ubolts. Is it outside to outside, inside to inside, or center to center?
Why are there different sizes anyway? Is one beefier than the other or do some trucks have wider springs? I am pretty clueless on this and need to order the kit so its there when I finally make the appointment. Thanks guys

Yes the ring gear sizes are correct. I think its measured by the inside of the u-bolt which i should be the same width as the leaf spring.
