I installed a set of BOSCH platinum plus 4's yesterday they were $6.00 a piece. I was running NGK rapid fires they were a good plug but I wanted to see if there was a difference with the perf. plugs. My truck seems to rev up quicker but I have not had a chance to drive it yet. I will post tomorrow. Bosch claims better gas mileage and if you can't feel the difference they will pay for the plugs.Anyone ran hte splitfires?

I ran splitfires in my nissan and in some small engines and my view is that they are all hype.

I don't know if this is true, but I've always heard that Toyotas don't perform as well with aftermarket, non-suggested electrical components (suggested such as: Denso, NGK, etc). I have always wondered if this is true or not, maybe y'all have some insight. I heard this from a friend who had an '88 Pickup 22RE and ran aftermarket distributor cap, plugs, plug wires and had alot of problems. When he swapped it all out for NGK stuff it ran well again. Any thoughts?
All of the aftermarket stuff was properly installed, timing correct, etc... so it wasn't a problem of improper installation or settings

One time I tryed to run the Bosh plugs in my Dodge Stealth. They lasted 2,500mi before they compleatly burnt up. I put the recomended $12.00 a pop NGK's in and they have been fine for 20,000 mi.

My understanding is that Spitfire actually says that their plugs are not recommended for imports. Don't know if they mention this on the box or not though. If not, they should.
As far as what to use, I found that the stock Denso work the best.

The truck seems to run a little smoother. The throttle response is quicker. I will have to see about hte mileage. There is a noticible difference in the power not a whole lot but noticible. I have a MSD Blaster 2 coil on it and that helped. I have had no problems with my ignition system. My plug wires are junk though. I plan on getting the new MSd I want to say Super Conductor But I cant remember the name of them. THey just came out with them.

Do the aftermarket ignition systems, coils and all that make alot of difference in general? I was looking on eBay at Jacobs and MSD stuff, but I didn't know if they were worth all of the money. What'd you coil cost? Was it worth it in your opinion?

;D I can only comment on my experience. I did a tune up w/a combo of parts. Afterwards, & I didn't put it together until months later, I had a prob. w/the truck cutting out. I mean out! Like you shut the key off & turned it back on real quick. Turned out to be the aftermarket(Standard, no cheap s**t) cap. From then on, I buy Toyota. I pay cost so the diff. isn't that much. I can see how paying retail would suck. As an aside, I've also had numerous probs. @ work & on personal vehicles w/aftermarket sensors on imports. DON"T DO IT!! Spend the extra$$ upfront & know it's right. Later...

i had the msd and the coil blaster 2 with the splitfire, it ran ok for about a year i changed to the bosch platinum last month and it seems to run ok, but the truck gives me about 13 mpg on the city, and the power range is in the highs 3000 almost 4000 rpms

I paid $5 for my coil off of a buddy. They are around $20 or $30 depends on what brand adn how any volts..I think it was worth it but I recommend perf. wires also so you get the most out of the coil. just my 2 pesos
