ok, so after buying my new 35's last week, i had to get the friends together and go wheeling of course. we went to a place we commonly go to and i hit a huge water crossing we always do. it was about a foot deeper this time due to all the rain and snowfall, so it took a little bit of backing and going to get all the way through. after getting out the truck would bog down on even the slightest incline and then it cut off. we let it sit for a little while ( i thought maybe the distributor was just wet and needed to dry out), and then it cranked and we drove we back home. it drove fine for 5 days, then i went to start it last night and i am having the same bogging problem. plenty of gas, new oil, etc. and i take really good care of it. i looked under the truck and there was an excessive amount of heat coming from the exhaust and catalytic conv. and the cat was even glowing red underneath its cover. could it be clogged and the reason for the bogging effect? if so, is there anyway i can check that myself or potentially fix it for the meantime? i just spent 750 bones on the new tires and am really strapped right now. if i do have to bite the bullet and get a new cat, what am i looking at cost wise? sorry to be so lenghty, i just want to give you guys, "my new mechanics", as much info as possible to help me out. this is my daily driver so i need to get it up and running asap. thanks

;D The easiest way to tell if it's the cat is to unbolt the exhaust behind the cat. If it still won't run, pull the O2 & see what happens. However, all this is depending upon the conditions being present @ the time of testing. Later...

In what your saying I would bet your cat exploded alot of us have had this happen it happened to me last year . I replaced mine with an LCEngineering tacoma bolt on it cost about $150.00 + shipping you can get a weld on starting at $70.00 but then you have to have someone weld it on for you. definitly go with a high flow it made a difference not alot but somthing.

Glowing red Cat huh... yeah that definately sounds like a clogged catalytic converter. I would say around $100 to have a decent muffler shop put a new one on for ya. Probably had the interior of the cat brake loose and it is getting in the way of the exhaust gases. This will cause all the backpressure on the engine and won't let you go speed up at all. Also sounds bad. I would recommend getting this fixed asap. Do what I do in a pinch for cash....look around the house and find something to sell.
