Hello,
I dont know much about trucks, I know more about cars. I am thinking of buying my father's 1995 4x4 Tacoma. I have always wanted a lifted truck, but never could afford it.
I was wondering if anyone could give me suggestions on where I could look for different lift kits? I would like to go about 6-8 inchs? My friend suggested suspension and coils.
Also would I need gearing for this?
Where could I buy stock parts? My father's grill and bumpers have like rust on them, and I would like to change them....
Thanks... pballerschick

Hey Chick, Welcome to TOR first off. The 95 taco huh... They don't make a 8" lift kit for IFS (independent front suspension) taco yet that I am aware of. Trailmaster and Revtek both make lift kits for the taco and I know Trailmaster has a 6" kit. I personally have heard it is a big PITA to install. You can always install a suspension lift and body lift on top of each other to get the tall lifts but it isn't the safest thing and is top heavy off road. Check out Revtek and Trailmaster. They both have websites for their stuff. Gearing is only necessary for larger tires. There are plenty of posts on this topic. Use the search feature and you should find what your looking for. Post a thread in the tacoma section on this board and see if anyones got extra body parts lying around. Might also check ebay. Good luck

If your going to wheel it and need to change the bumpers I would put a bumper made for offroad and has the strength for pulling. Check out www.allprooffroad.com, they have a lot of good stuff for toyotas.

;D Welcome to TOR!! Don't know if you've tried posting this on the Tacoma board(haven't gotten that far). There's a pretty strong Taco group on here. Should be able to help. Later...

You can achieve your goal with a fabtech 6" performance suspension lift and a 3" body lift. You could probably squeeze 37's with some trimming. You would be pushing the integrity of the IFS.

i don't know how much dinero you have to spend, but with a 6" lift kit and body lift and labor costs, you will be a little over a 1K. If you can swing it, you could put a solid axle on and put larger springs/coils for probably double that and it will save you money to swap gears and all that while you already have axle off the truck. if you can swing it, you will never regret doing it.

Wow, actually my friends said that I would need about 3000 to buy a lift kit and tires and rims... I was going to pay by friend about a 1000 to lift and paint the truck.... Does this sound right?
Could I do like a 4" suspension and like 2-3 body?

Yes, That's actually more realistic.

Or if you don't want a body lift you could either get the Fabtech or Trailmaster 6" and then use some adjustable coilovers to achieve 8-9", or with the TM you can add the Revtek spacers on top of it. With that amount of lift and IFS, I would probably stick with 35's. You won't have to regear, but it is a good idea to do so.

i would go with the 4" suspension and 3" body and 35s and a set of gears 7" is still quite a bit of lift
