Hello i have a 92 4runner with a 22re and was wondering where the speedometer cable was acutally connected too or reading from? I always thought the transmissiong but i remember doing my diffs to the 5.29 gearing and the guy said it would change my speedometer reading since the sensor is in the diff? Is this true?? sounds kinda odd to me. Thanks Bryan

Well what i really wanna know is that when i do a drivetrain swap what i have to do to keep the speedometer woking in the truck. If it was in the differential then i would have been fine, however if it is in the transfercase or tranny i have no idea how to keep it.

The speedo sender is on the pass side of the t-case, at the back. If you're talking a non-Toyota drv trn swap you'll need an adapter cable to the new case. Advance Adapters may have one depending on your drv trn.

while on the subject my speedometer seems to be going. The past couple of days it took around ten minutes or so before kicking in! Any advice would be appreciated.

b4runner: the 92 uses an electronic sender and electric gauge. if your new tranny also has electronic sender, you should be able to use a speedometer calibrator to get the computer to read correctly.
riseagainst88: your 92 pickup also uses an electronic sender and gauge. I would suspect a loose connection somewhere in the circuit. Be sure to check the connector on the rear of the gauge cluster. The printed circuits - especially at the connecting points - are prone to corrosion and contacts loosening and not making good contact.

thanks, I was thinking it was the connections to the guage cluster because it only goes bad in really hot weather, I plan on swapping for an sr5 cluster so hopefully this will correct the problem

Thanks
