I'm in the process of replacing both front cv axles on a 91 p/u. Right now I can't get the old cv axle out of the driver side. It is loose and hanging down, but I can't get it to clear the flange off the diff. Anyone got a good trick for this?:

On my 86 4runner I had to disconnect my upper balljoint and my sway bar end link. So I could free up the outer end of the axle first. Then I had the room to wiggle it out. It helps to stand on your head too. lol

The trick is the suspension must be able to hang at full droop. Anything obstructing that will hang you up.

Did this 2 weeks ago. yes, disconnect lower ball joint, AND sway bar. You may have to pull down a little on lower portion of a arm, then that jocker will pop right out. Difficulty is mostly sway bar, if you have the other side jacked up. It took me 2 days of thinking, beating, hollering, and crying to figure this out. I also disconnected the shock. Good luck, it is EASY after you do these things. pops right out, no problemo.

Thanks guys, I got it done. I disconnected the lower ball joint, sway bar and lower shock mount. Put plenty of play into the front end parts, then it slid right out. I also had one incidental finding. The driver side locking hub mechanism came apart internally so its been permanently locked. Easy fix, but its probably been robbing mileage for a while.
