i have an 89 pickup 22re efi. my question is can i get a sr-5 cluster to swap into mine without a major PITA. i have heard that up to 88 they made a one wire harness fits all and capped off what was not used. and in 89 they each came with an individual harness depending on what model the truck was. i want to add a tach and some other things and was hoping that i could go get a cluster, any help is appreciated.

Its a fairly easy swap. You will need one from a similar year. 89-91 should work. After that they switched to electronic speedometer, you need one with a mechanical speedo. It plugs right into the dash with no modifications, but you NEED to change the oil pressure sending unit. If you don't you will ruin the oil pressure gauge almost instantly.

Also it helps if the cluster is from a truck with the same engine, otherwise the tach will be off, but it can be recalibrated.

use the search, theres alot of writeups on this and a really detailed one somewhere on the web, its just plug and play and like 4x4banger said, make sure you unplug the sender from the wire, if you have a 22re its on the pass side kinda by the oil filter towards the front if i remeber correctly and idk about the older ones but for mine, electric speedo, it has a potentiometer built into the tach so you can adjust it for your engine
