Ive had 1986- 2004 toyotas and I recently perchased my second 1994 yota..I have noticed that the transmission is relatively tight..Like its new, but its got 215,000 miles on it..I was wondering what changed in the 89-94 transmissions..The gear box is WAY closer and tighter than the 84-88 models..Just to satisfy my own curiosity.

There is a teflon bushing at the bottom of the shifter that sits inside the tranny. When they wear out things get sloppy feeling. All you have to do is pop the shifter out of the trans and replace the bushing. I did this about 3 years ago to mine and it made it feel like new. I wanna say toyota sells that part for right around 10 bucks.

It's been a while since I've work on the new of a TOY, and I've never worked on a Taco, but I believe the shifters are the same.
