WHAT DO YOU DO IF YOU DONT HAVE THE VIN TAG IN YOUR DOOR JAM, AND YOU NEED TO KNOW THE GEARING IN YOUR REAREND? IM LOOKING TO DO THIS EASILY BECAUSE OF WHERE I HAVE TO KEEP THE TRUCK. AND WHAT DO YOU THINK THE CHANCES OF IT HAVING SOMETHING OTHER THAN A 4.10 IN IT? THIS TRUCK IS MY SPARE PARTS TRUCK AND I WANT TO REGEAR. ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED.

WHAT DO YOU DO IF YOU DONT HAVE THE VIN TAG IN YOUR DOOR JAM, AND YOU NEED TO KNOW THE GEARING IN YOUR REAREND? Ask your proctologist, he's your rearend specialist. But seriously, it's the tag on the firewall that has the axle code. If you tell us a little about this truck we might be able to answer. What year/engine/transmission for starters. And turn off the caps lock.

THATS WIERD ITS ON THE DOOR JAM OF MY 93 TRUCK. I FIGURED IT WOULD BE IN THE SAME PLACE ON MY 92 ....WHICH HAS A 22RE WITH A 5 SPEED. AND I LIKE CAPS THEY ARE BETTER THAN ALL LOWER CASE LETTERS I SEE ALL OVER THE SITE IN DIFFERENT POSTS. PLUS I FIGURED IT BEING '86-'95 TRUCKS AND 4RUNNERS FORUM PEOPLE WOULD PRETTY MUCH WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT (CONTEXT CLUES)

No need to be an ass about it Larry. You have to remember that on turbo 4 cylinder toyota's the gearing is different than on a regular 22R as with the V-6 Toyota's which they started making in '88.
Caps lock on the internet as long been known as someone yelling; also it is extremely annoying. You can't expect everyone to know what you are saying based on 86-95.

Toyota made a few different ratios and though some people say there is method to their madness about what comes in what i havent found that to be true.
Most came with 4.10s. But 4.33, 4.56 and 4.88s were all available from the factory for your year.

There is a method to it.
Basic 4 cyl/5 spd is 4.10 Auto equipped always has a deeper ratio (not just Toyota), so 4 cyl/auto is 4.30 Taller tires need a lower ratio, so 4 cyl/5 spd/31" tire pkg gets 4.56 Taller tires plus auto still lower, so 4.88
V6's are similar.
