i made a 6 inch body lift on my 91 k5 but it was a PAIN. i used schedule 80 tubing which is about 3 inch diameter and a quarter inch thick, had 10 peices cut 6 inches long. i welded them to the body mounts, ordered grade 8 bolts from fastenal. used all new energy suspensions red polyeurothane bushings. i had to make bumper brackets, make gap gaurds out of an old bed mat and some self tapping screws. i had to completely make a steering shaft from scratch with a universal joint on each end. i had to make an extension for my transfer case stick. i had to extend the shifting linkage but you have to do that anyway even with a 1 inch body lift. i had to make a new gas filler hose. i had to replace some ground wires with longer wire, all my vacuum hoses in the engine bay were too short. was it worth it? yes!! i now have 6 solid inches of lift that doesnt affect my drivetrain. i started with a real 3 inch body lift and was looking for a cheap way to get more lift. so i made the 6 inch body lift, made some longer shackles for the front, did a home made shackle flip in the rear, and made a set of 2.5 inch zero rate AALs in the front. on top of the 12 inch super lift i put on it to begin with. why a 6 inch body? i mean if you want lift without messing with your cog do lift blocks... i saw a guy in a magazine a while back that had rockwells with 12 inch blocks, i thought that was crazy, but the 6 inch body has it beat by far...

I read elsewhere that rough country sells a decent 4in lift kit. Would this be a better idea?

6 inch body lift is pretty stupid, although I see that kind of stuff on chevy's all the time. Chevy lift kits are not that expensive (for a solid axle one) and you can go even cheaper with add-a-leafs, blocks, shackles, drop shackles, etc.

i already have 17 inches of suspension lift. making driveshafts, new shocks, brake lines, steering issues, etc is NOT cheap. home made 6 inch body lift is. and dont you dare say my peice is stupid.

LMAO...I havent been on in a while..But I can see that everyone's goin crazy on this post..LOL.. Well to answer rockcrawlintoy's question on Y colosus went so big on that body, is cause noone wanted to try makin a 6 inch, and we're clearing 53's with EASE...!!! Remind you this is a show/ looker, but built very very stable as well..I can tell you that it was very fun and a great learning experience doing Colosus's blazer, and it was even more fun puttin that 16.5 inches of lift on the Tacoma..At times we just do it for the fun to see if we have the ability..Im in the process now of jackin up my 94 Yota..I sold my 88..So now its time to go back to the mad scientist's lab...Which is....Colosus Abbott...lol

Im not telling no one what to do about the body lift thing, but I did NOT move my radiator on my 88 at all after goin 3 inches of body..I welded in 2.5 inches of extention on both shifters, and it was fine. It shifted great. All I extended was the return hose on the power steering pump which is bolted with a brackett to the body under the grill on the driver side. Everything else strecthed fine , even the gas tank hoses.....It was a LOT...of trouble though..Especially with the older 88 of mine...Lots of rust made it easy to ring off bolts..I had to cut most of them with the torch cause they were so rusted..But I made it work, and it looked great afterwards, but will not do it again unless I really have to..Ill go all suspension first..If I were to go through all that trouble of putting on a lift, Id go 3 instead of 2 or 1..You can see much better under the truck too while doing work to other things on the 3 inch rathwer than the 1 inch..Plus my hands need all the room they can get while installing a body, cause its a tight fit in places on those older models...

Throwing huge lifts on trucks with huge tires don't make them special whatsoever. I had a cousin who had a nice 9.5 inch full throttle suspension lift on his gmc duramax. He tired going for the big look with hitting it with 44 boggers. After that, he decided how it morely looked like shit and went and got some weld 20s and 37 toyos and ended up powdercoating everything. His axle is powdercoated white and his drvieshaft is blue and even his leaf springs were powdercoated every other one blue and white. What I am saying is, if you are going for a show/looker invest money into it where it doesn't look like the thing is going to fall all apart.

Colosus really take offense to ppl sayin his stuff is silly and whatnot..I cant blame him, he's got THOUSANDS in ALL his trucks....He's even got money in mine, and Im only his friend..lol..But I have to say that we have done ALL of the work, mods, fabs, etc in our own yards, so its kinda hard to take ppl's pride away by sayin that it's stupid..It was not stupid to me when I was in the yard at night and 3 in the morning workin on those trucks till the sun rose just for the plain fact that we wanted to get it done and wheel the next day or roll down to the lake the next morning..Or just for the simple fact of staring at our creation that we had busted our ass on for 15 hours straight...Its called "self admeration"

You gotta remember there are way more ppl out there than just ppl that "wheel"...Some ppl lift for show, some dont, Like Ive stressed before..I have an old 94 to wheel on..But Im NOT..EVER gonna sink 20,000 in a truck plus another 7,000 for lifting it and modifying it, just to tare it up in the woods..Keep an open mind...Not all ppl Wheel and rock crawl..=O)+ I understand that you dont like the "BIG" lift look..But because of you not liking it does not make it wrong or our lifting techniques incorrect either..But make no mistake, Ill take an ole ass beater thru hell too, just like you, but not the Taco, or the Blisnasty..LMAO

"Not all ppl Wheel and rock crawl.." - isnt this Toyota OFF Road? Also, "if you want lift without messing with your cog do lift blocks" - ANY lift will affect your cog. But back to the bumper part of the question, look on all pro, marlin, downey? sites. Even google it, many companies make bumpers for these trucks. It just depends on what style you want and how much you want to spend.

Okay I won't say it is stupid when I can see a frame with a body that looks like it's about to fall off because of the huge gap inbetween the frame and the body. I won't say your whole truck is stupid, just the body lift. But hey what do I know? You're the expert, just ask you.

well even with gap guards it would look stupid. I don't know of anyone who thinks a bunch of frame and cheap gap guards showing under the body looks good. But then again I guess you're the expert.
