mystery canister

I recently bought a 1991 extra cab 4x4 with the v6 and auto tranny. Upon opening the hood recently, I discovered a black canister that had been mounted to the driver side fender had come unbolted. There is a vacuum line on the side that is broken off, and another line of some sort coming from the bottom of the canister, also broken off. I can't see where either line originally went. There's also a bunch of wires that go into the canister, coming from a hole in the firewall. Can anyone tell me what this canister is? I have looked in my maintenance manual, but can't find anything about it. I'd like to hook it back up, but can't see any broken lines anywhere.

sounds like evap. but generally there arent wires. how bout some pics

Another possibility is the vacuum motor for cruise control.

Thats what i would think. Its bolted right there next to the shock tower.
