 This may be crazy, but does anyone know if a '91 3.0 six banger will run on 85 ethanol? and if not, could it be modified to do it?

It would be a pretty good project but it is possible. Since alcohol is much more corrosive then gasoline you would run into a few issues there. It would break down fuel lines, seals and gaskets quicker. To convert you would have to more then likely change your injectors, re-map your ECM since your 02 band would be different more then likely popping check engine light. Your air to fuel ratio's would have to be much different since it will think its running real lean then then overfuel itself resulting in a wide variety of problems. Since alcohol burns cooler you would have to also change spark plugs and more then likely different timing.
