hello all Im new to the site, but have been wheeling since high school. I had a ford f250 hd but got rid of that and my rice burner civic for my dream truck, obv a yota. I got a 2000 yota coma sr5 v6 4x4. Im looking for suggestions as to where to start with this truck. Im gonna do the diff breathers this weekend. The truck has 50k on it, spark plug change or leave, change the dif oil or leave it? I cannot see anything that would suggest that the truck has ever been wheeling or seen mud so i dunno. Also looking for suggestions for an intake, are the intakes out there worth the ridiculous amount theyre all lookin for or would a drop in k&n be good enough? Will put muddy pics of the truck up when i figure out how.
By the way im in Ct so if anyones up here in NE pm me

It's on this sight as well it was in the frequently asked questions section but this mod is only recomended for street use when mudding you have to put the plate in so it's not a bad idea to change the factory paper filter to a k&n

Hey Man, I am new here myself but I have had my taco for over a year now. I would deffinately do the deck plate mod. If you like to wheel alot I would get a K&N filter charger kit. It is like 40 bucks but well worth the money.

think about a snorkle (if you cross alot of water) some of my buddies have aftermarket intakes (offroad intakes) on there rigs and they suck up water... i dont know if this happens alot but im not taking the chance

yeah, id like to do a snorkel since there is some deeeeeeep water holes around me, and my idea was to get a replacement front qp/fender to cut the hole in so as not to ruin the stock one. assuming i can get a fair price thats what ill eventually do.

Since a few of you guys mentioned getting a snorkle for water crossings, I wanted to add this bit of info you might already know. If you do want to go deep then make sure you have used silicone to seal up the rest of the important components that will help get you out of the water. Stuff like spark plugs and seals and air intake. I put some on the seal around the box where your filter goes. Keeps water from leaking in. Also put some on the dust boots for the spark plugs to seal them up. Hope that helps....

whereabouts on the airbox did you seal? the little holes? I still have mine out of the truck from the deck plate project so i can still easily seal it. I saw about six little squares that look like they could use some sealant, did you do all the lines on the box?

I have had two and they always let in dust! I have since switched to amsoil and have been much more happy. and like someone pointed out if you do go in water or mud that is wet close the deck-plate mod! red

Most of the hoses connecting to the airbox are fine. I seal my airbox off where you pull the two halves apart to replace the air filter. Its not a good gasket seal so I put some silicone in it. If there are any other places you see that don't have a good seal, it wouldn't hurt to put on a little silicone.
