1995 Toyota Tacom 4X4 steering issue Hello all:
I am having issues with my 1995 Toyota Tacoma 4X4 in regards to steering. I took it to my local alignment shop in town here and they advised that something was loose or broken or possible a bolt was broken. The said that they were not able to do an alignment on the truck because the wheels even though the steering wheel is locked there is too much play in it. I have checked underneath the truck for any loose bolts or anything cracked and have not found anything, EXCEPT that the steering gear assembly is moving when the wheels are locked. The movement is noticeable more on the passenger side by the grommet. If anyone has any suggestions that would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks again for any help.

HAve you checked the play in the spindles or knuckles? You might have worn bearings on the front that is causing extra play in the wheel. If you can rock the wheel back and forth without the knuckle moving then you need some new bearings. Everything should feel tight as the wheel is turned back and forth. If something is loose, then you could check bearings. The steering box is probably ok as long as it isn't leaking. Bearings need to be pressed in so you might have to take it to a shop if this is the problem.
When you turn the steering wheel, how much do you turn before the wheels start to turn? Or how much play is in the steering wheel? You might check the steering shaft that connects to the steering box.
