My buddy has a 01' Tacoma with a Fabtech 3.5inch lift. I think he has gone through 6-7 cv boots. I was really suprised by that and wondered if all Tacoma guys with suspension lifts have problems with that? Anyone?

I don't think it's a Tacoma issue as much as it is an IFS issue. With the increased angle at the CV Boot due to the 3.5" lift, this is bound to happen. I believe you can get higher angle CV boots to help with this, or he can do a front diff drop if the Fabtech didn't already do that.

Hey check out the thread called fabtech3.5" and basic 33's in this tacoma forum and it should clear up why more. Basically it all comes down to having to drop your front diff, and not cranking it up to the full 3.5". I think there's also a link to make a custom diffdrop, but also if you crank it all the way you'll stretch your struts and everything else.

True it is an IFS issue, we have both looked for high angle cv's but havent been able to find them for the taco? You guys know of someone who sells them? Also, how extensive is a diff drop (ie. mechanical knowledge and price?)

the diff drop is easy drop the front skid plates and there is 2 diff mounts , its a 1" spacer that goes between the mounts and the frame , there are a few links with pics , just look around the tacoma forum and you should find them

The Tacomas are know for CV boot problems even when not lifted. Downey Offroad offers CV boots that are for high angle as well as made of a better material than stock ones. Your friend may want to converting to manual hubs on the front to keep the CVs from turning all the time and that would help take stress off them and they wouldn't wear out as much. I have converted my 02 to manual hubs very easy to do.
