This is rediculous. Am I correct in this information. My local dealer told me I can NOT order a 2005 Double Cab with Long Bed in 6spd. Only the SHORT bed comes in 6spd.
Also, you can't have the CDL as an option, it must be purchsed seperately. This seems rediculous
Please tell me I am wrong. The short bed is barely a bed at all but I'd like to have the 6spd.

Based on the information on the Toyota.com website, it appears that you are correct. You can only get the longbed in an automatic. Seems odd, but I guess that Toyota is playing a numbers game. They are likely betting that there are not too many folks that will go with the longbed, and of those, there is an even lower percentage that would want the manual. So, (this is all speculation) why put the money into manufacturing a manual for a limited few buyers.
As for the CDL, I am not sure what you mean. Please clarify.

Hey Mike,
CDL = center locking differential. This seems (correct me if I am wrong) only available on the TRD off road package. The way Toyota builds their trucks doesn't make any sense to me at all. If I want a Long Bed 6spd with sport package and a CDL I should be able to pay for it and get it.
Since the short bed is so short, even for a compact pick up, I am leaning on going with a Land Rover Discovery 2004 since it has more cargo room (with the seats down) then a Tacoma short bed, and has a CDL. Although they are hardley as reliable as Toyotas I am not dropping 25-27k on a truck that doesn't make sense for me in design. The Rover is about 25k$ with 7k miles on it.
I love the new Tacomas, but being that the truck is so light in the back and seeing I'd have to pay my local dealer to throw in the CDL (1500$ or more) and pay an extra 3k for it....well any suggestions or insights I'd be happy to listen to.
The Rover comes with a 100k warrnty and for an extra 1k so would the Toyota. Now my local dealer is telling me that Cabs for the 205 are not even being made yet!!!
The CDL goes a long way for us folk in the North East especially in an automatic.
WTF who is running the show over there??? Not to mention the Toyota.com website is about as misleading as it gets.

I don't suppose you are interested in the access cab vs. the double cab then? Sorry I can't be of more help. Good luck with your decision, and I hope it turns out to be a Toy!

Thanks Mike I appreciate your attitude. I really want the Toyota but I need the double for work and life style. I'm just pisssed. When they went revamp the model why the $#%^ wouldn't they make options more versatile. For 25K you can buy just about anything slightly used (meaning 10k miles or less and less then a year old)
These days here is what Ford,Dodge,Chevy,Nissan are doing. Toyotas main competitors. Those models include options like sunroofs and power seats and luxury Toyota has yet to pick up on. Now I dont need any of that but to limit the models they limit their sales. The best part of buying a Toyota is there aren't any realquestions to ask about mechanics. They are incredibly reliable and last forever.
Yet they revamp the Tacoma for the first time in a decade and they leave out highly important things now that a consumer can get luxury appointments and still have a tough rugged truck. They should replace whoever made those decisions as anyone who reads consumer reports can figure this basic sh@t out before marketing a new model

THE PROBLEM IS THAT THERE'S TO MANY SUCKERS OUT THERE ,SUCH AS MYSELF, THAT FEEL JUST THE SAME AS YOU AND CONTINUE BUYING TACOMAS. TOYOTA HAS AND WILL CONTINUE TO BUILD TRUCKS TO MAXIMIZE THEIR PROFIT, NOT UNITS SOLD. THAT'S WHY THEY LIMIT CERTAIN OPTIONS TO CERTAIN REGIONS. THEY, BASED ON SOME ONE'S BRILLIANT RESEARCH, KNOW WHAT OPTIONS WILL SELL BEST IN WHAT AREAS, AND IS IT WORTH IT TO THEM. YOU CAN GET WHAT YOU WANT FROM THE FACTORY AS I DID IN 2000. THE PROBLEM IS FINDING A SALES PERSON WHO WILL FIGHT THE FACTORY FOR WHAT YOU WANT AND A DEALER THAT WILL ALLOW THAT SALES PERSON TO INVEST THAT AMOUNT OF TIME DOING SO. MY FREIND WORKED A DEALER. I GOT LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO WAIT OVER 6 MONTHS FOR WHAT I WANTED. HA HA, SICK ISN'T IT. RECENTLY TRADED FOR 05 TACOMA.
