i have a 99 ext 4wd 5speed tacoma. it came with a factory rear locker that seem not to work. i noticed there was a certain precedure to engage it in the owners manual and then when it engages the light should stop blinking on the dash. mine does not stop blinking. what it the common solution to this. also i have the auto hubs on my truck. would having manual give better gas milage or be better in any way? thanks in advance.

Your truck has to be in 4-lo, and you have to be stopped. I have the exact same truck and mine can be tricky to engage also, i've found that if you press the button, with out using the power of the truck you just need to roll a little bit for it to slip into place...not to much or it won't catch....that's about all I can tell you.
And i like my auto-hubs.....after watching all my friends have to hop out and lock their hubs. If you're rig is a 'beat-um-up' trail rig i'd suggest manual....but for a daily driver and offroad rig sometimes on the weekend, i don't see anything wrong with auto hubs

There is a mod out there that will allow you to engage the locker "on-the-fly" and you don't have to be in 4-lo. I'll see if I can dig it up.
