Hi Guys and Gals, I have a 2001 Tacoma 4X4 V6 3.3 AUTO with 38,000 miles on it. I originally bought it with 32,000 miles on it and had some axle wrap up issues when the vehicle was coming to a stop. Toyota replaced the Driveline and said that it should be fixed now. I have been driving ever since and the vehicle still does it. When you come to a stop the vehicle clunks like you were shifting into a different gear. According to Toyota they said that this is Normal for the automatic transmissions. I have a hard time beliving this is normal. Please Help. Is this something toyota should be fixing or is this normal. Thanks

There have been other reports on this board of the exact same thing.......not sure how it was resolved, but at least other people are having it too.
It was also on the newer tacomas
Someone said to make sure your leaf spring bolts were tight.....

The only thing that concerns me is Toyota said that it was the drive line, and I specifically asked them will this damage other components driving it around with a bad drive line, and they said, "well it is still working" To me that sounds like they dont want to look. It is still under the powertrain warranty. Is it possible that the tranny could be screwed? Thanks for the help.

I have a 96 tacoma and it did the same thing so i took the brace off of a old toyota front axle. i welded it on the passanger side of my rear axle and ran a bar up to the frame. it mad a very cheep traction bar and the axle warp was gone.
