I have a 1999 Tacoma 3.4l that has had a miss for quite awile now. Plugs and wires have been replaced with no change. Just went for a ride with the local mechanic who hooked up with an anylizer and found that one bank of cylinders is the source of misfire, Cylinders 1,3,5 with number 3 being a little worse than the others. No check engine light has ever come on. It is worse after startup but will still miss on occasion when completly warm. Idles fine and cruises generally OK, but under heavy load or a little behind the power curve it breaks down badly. Anyone else with similiar problems or solutions.

I had the same problem, but mine was due to a faulty plug wire. Have you replaced your coils?? Did he hook up the OBDII?? That will pull codes if there are any, not all codes make the check engine light come on. A missing cylinder should I'm guessing when you replaced your wires, you just got 3 wires, for your 2, 4, and 6 cylinders. I would take out your coils, and examine them down by the spark plug. This sounds a lot like when I had one of my plug wires grounding out on the head when i would give it power....here's the thread. If you have an ohm meter you can also check for power to the coils, and resistance of the coils. mkelly.proboards22.com/index.cgi?board=Tacomas&action=display&thread=1097008503It's a relativly small notch, and i could barley see it, but sure enough, that is what caused it.

Hi I did replace the three wires and have had the wires and plugs out twice looking for any discolartion, but found none, If it were just one coil gone bad I wouldn't think that it would also show a miss in Cylinders 1 and 5 aswell. Dave
