i have just bought a 98 toyota tacoma and was wondering if i had a dana in my front end? and if not what is is and is it better or worse?

Ummm, no. You have Toyota IFS. 'Dana' is usually referred to along with the solid axles i.e. Dana 44 and Dana 60. However, Ford Rangers have IFS, but certain years are a Dana 30, or a Dana 28 (I can't remember). Comparing the two IFS's, I don't know if one is stronger than the other. If you are talking a solid axle like the 44 or 60, the solid is WAY stronger.

Dana supplies axles to just about every vehicle manufacturer, including Ford, GM, Jeep, Isuzu. The TTB solid/IFS axle in Ford p/u's is a Dana 44.

The TTB solid/IFS axle in Ford p/u's is a Dana 44. there is the dana 28 and dana 35 in the rangers and exploders, dana 44 in the 1/2 ton pickups and dana 50 in the f250s. all TTB Drew
