I ordered a 2005 Tacoma - Black, DoubleCab, 4x2, Automatic with TRD OFFROAD Package #2 with Exhaust Tip by Valor, Carpet Floor mats, and Door Sill. What i actually got was: a 2005 Tacoma - Black, DoubleCab, 4x2, Automatic with TRD SPORT Package #2 with Carpet Floor mats. I just noticed when i walked in ....it was the sport and not the offroad. What the F? Anyone know the differences? ? Please email me at registermystuff@yahoo.com I was wondering what all the differences were? I know the Sport has the hood scoop and some sort of driving suspension with 17 in Tires/ Rims and It has limited differential slip, but I dont have a clue as to what kind of suspension makes a difference, etc. I know the TRD Offroad package #2 has some sort of offroad suspension and skid plate and has the BFGoodrich offroad 16 in tires in stead of the 17 in on the Sport package. Can someone please fill me in on the differences? I am clueless about the suspension differences, etc Thanks, Memphis buyer

The Sport has slightly softer shocks (which I personally like). And I heard that the Sport has a larger sway bar, but don't quote me on that.
The interior and seats of the Sport are a little nicer. The Sport seats have more padding in the "love handle" area that hold you in the seat nicely. I like the bigger Sport wheels and the hood scoop really sets the truck apart. But unfortunately the Sport doesn't have a locking diff or off-road tires. My Sport came with some pretty nice Bridgestone Dueler A/T M+S. The tread could still be more aggressive, but I don't mind since my truck is on the road 99% of the time. I'll replace the tires with some more aggressive tread when it comes time.

Is an OFFROAD package even available on a 2WD truck ?
If it is, and that's what you wanted and ordered, why did you take posession from the dealer ?

Basically, what "pb2themax" said is correct, but with Sport Package 2, you get towing equipment on top of it.
The TRD Sport has Bilstein Sport Shocks and limited slip that are designed more for road use...not sure about the swaybar either. All in all, the Sport is geared more towards looks (hood scoop and color matching bumpers) and road use.
With the Off Road, you get Off Road tuned Shocks, Progressive Rate Springs, Locking Rear Differential, Off Road Tires, and Downhill Assist Control/Hill Start Assist if you get an Automatic. All things you would need in a 4x4 for off roading. If you get the 4x4 TRD Sport, you do without all of the above, and get limited slip instead of locking rear diff. I assume its the same with the 4x2 TRD Sport.

How could you not notice the difference between a Sport and an Off Road? Wheels, hood, grill, bumper, interior, and decals on the bed are all different. Anyway, yes, you can get both the OffRoad and the Sport in 2wd. They'd be called a PreRunner. They have the same ride height and tires as a 4wd, so the only easy way to tell is to look at the rear mudflaps. The 4x4s have it printed on the mudflaps.
