Hey all, I'm thinking about trading in my 1999 4runner (5spd) for a new 2005 tacoma. I like how the 2.7/4cyl is more fuel efficient, but I'm worried that a 20hp drop from what im used to will make the truck feel sluggish. On the other hand, the 4.0/6cyl might be a little overkill, as I rarely tow and do minimal off-roading. Has anyone tried either of the new 2005 models? Comments, suggestions? Sorry if this is a repost, I'm new to the forum.

The 4cyl will supprise you on what it can do. I guess it depends all on you. If you are looking for good gas mileage, get the 4. The 4 can tow a good amount of weight. My dad pulls a trailer with 2 sea doo's on it, with a fully loaded bed with a 2wd taco. Either way, they are great trucks

Although the 4 is peppy, see a lot of posts from people that wish they had gone with the v6.
I love the V6 - tons of power for this truck.

I had a 4 cylinder on a previous Tacoma, it was nice. I just bought the 2005 with V-6. There's no contest, I love the V-6 and on the 4x4's the milage on both are almost the same. However, the 4 cylinder will burn regular just fine.
