I was told by the tire shop that i should be able to fit a set of Firestone Destination M/T's in a 265/75/R16 on a 16x8 pro comp rim with a 4" backspacing on my 2001 toyota tacoma with stock suspension. I was wondering if anyone had this setup or similar size, if it fit fine without rubbing, and how they liked it and if they noticed it was a little slower off the line with the bigger tires or anything. The stock wheels are the old 15x7 steel rims with 225/75R15's.

I had put 265/75/16 BFG A/T's on a set of rims with 4.25 backspacing and they rubbed the hell out of the pinch weld area and the plastic liners in the fenderwell. I had to dremel the plastic out, take off the mud flap, and hammer down the pinch. I would say to have them test fitted before you buy. Now that I lifted my truck its not a problem anymore, especially in the area of stuffing the wheel in the fender while wheeling. Measure twice cut once approach, and you will know for sure.

The only problem with a 16 inch rim is that tires are goin to cost you a lil bit more! Only downside! If there are rub issues just get under her and see wheres she rubbin and beat the hell out of that spot or bust out the metal shears or saw-zaw!

I guess the 05 trucks are still way too new to get some good tire wheel combo.. as time goes by I'm sure we will hear from peeps what to and what not to do..
