This is my first post in this forum... I have an 02 tacoma extended cab, 3.4l v6, 5 speed. I have the towing package on it as well. The manual says that without the package, the maximum weight is 3500 lbs, but with the package is 5000 lbs. Am I understanding this correctly? How much have any of you all towed?

3500 is when you just have the ball on the bumper ( no towing package.) 5000 is with the towing package, 5000 is normal for most towing packages, so you should be fine.
I used to have a 92 2wd toy pick up. It didn't have the towing package, just the ball on the bumper. We used that thing to haul a big dump trailer all the time, it worked fine, never had any problems... the box on this trailer was a 10'wide 18'long and 8'tall. You should be able to tow atleas the 5000 lbs that the manual says, with no problems.

Nice. Thanks for the reply. That makes me feel better. I am pulling the Uhaul 12 foot box trailer, which with a max gross load should be well under 5000 (I think it will be about 4200 including the trailer). The guy at Uhaul was trying to tell me that I HAD to get a tranny cooler installed, or I would run into problems. The problem I ran into was that I have a 5 SPEED!!! And from what I know, you can't put a tranny cooler on a manual. He couldn't get that past his thick skull.
