Can you remove your catalyst converter for more hp and mileage without damaging your engine? hypothetical of course my state has no emissions checks

I think there are too many emissions related parts to make this even worth your time. Plus why pollute just to gain a hp or two?

It's got to be more than 2 HP .. for example my 911 Carrera with the Cats on is okay but with it off I can feel the pull. as for pollutants My 91 Jetta 16valver passes smog with the cats punched out the 911 fails buy 8% . the motors now adays are so efficient that it should run at a cleaner rate. I would say try to find a by-pass setup so come smog time. put them cats back on.. I know i know it's not such a keep the earth green type of thing to say.. Just an idea..

Then your looking for a test pipe. Don't get caught with one.

no your gain by removing the cat is not that much the way cats are designed alot of them are already high flow so ther wasn't that much restriction to begin with I did a dyno on my rig and the dif was 1.6 HP gain so leave the cat on.Yes you gain a little throttle response but that is about it.

Some go for the "sound" of performance. It's alittle throatier on the let off/shift. Probably cheaper to drive around with a 5gal bucket on your head. Better for the Env. too. Cat' removal just isn't what it used to be. Not like a 78 chevy, that's for sure. Stew

it gives it a really nice sound as long as you have the v6 like mine but as they all say. even if your state doesnt have emissions tests, and neither does alabama, DONT GET CAUGHT WITH IT OFF!! its a huge fine w/out it.

I'm running my 99 Tacoma 3.4 with no cat and a borla exhaust system and I definitely felt a difference. It sounds great too! I measured the cat then I bought a pipe, welded flanges on it and put it in to replace the cat. As for the check engine light, URD sells a Rear oxygen sensor simulator to get rid of the check engine light............ URDUSA.com
