i've always had a fullsize and never really had to worry about this cuz i never hauled anything THAT heavy....but i was just curious if anyone can tell me the payload capacity for my truck....i couldnt find it on either of the stickers in the door or under the hood. just says GVWR 5100lbs. reason i'm asking is that a couple weekends ago i pulled the motor and tranny from a model A for a friend and need to take it down to College Station (about 3.5 hrs away) to get it rebuilt. the only reason i'm leery is b.c. before i knew anything about anything i burned up the clutch in my `84 F150 hauling an engine and BBQ pit in the back driving mostly in OD....and dont want the same results w/ this truck. its a `97 Tacoma 4x4 w/ the 2.7L and 5-speed. also, anyone know the gear ratios in the tranny? specifically...is 5th gear 1:1?

i believe 4th it 1:1 5th is an over drive and its somewhere near .93:1 my friend hauled 2 unimog axles in the back of his tacoma with 33s. he also pulled a toyota trecel on a small trailer and you could never smell the clutch

It should be GVWR - the weight of your truck = payload. So you should have no problem with an engine in back.

gvwr stands for gross vehicle weight rear, its really a 1/2 ton pickup.
