I HAVE A 2000 TACOMA 4X4 V6 I JUST GOT SOME 33'S AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT GEARS WOULD PUT MY TRUCK BACK TO STOCK PERFORMANCE THANKS I have 2004 V-6 and went to the 255/85/16's which is just slightly bigger than most 33's. I went with the 4.56 gears and the truck is back pretty close to stock. The 4.88's would give a bit more acceleration if that is what you are looking for.

ditto with 4.56's, you have the V6 with a 5 speed that has plenty of power to move those tires. If offroad only get the 4.88s or if you plan to go bigger than 33's. By the way I wouldnt goto that shop again if they told you to get 3.55s. They are obviously not knowledgable on the subject.

BETWEEN THE 4:56 AND 4:88 WILL THERE BE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN GAS MILAGE POWER AND ENGINE WEAR

The 4.88's will bring it back close to stock spec the 4.56 you will be giving up some gas mileage and a little power. As far as engine wear no that depends on how you drive and how you maintain it.

Before y'all go telling him what he needs to get, you need to know what he has now. And what tranny does he have, auto or manual ? it makes a difference. Your all answering a question that hasn't been fully asked. And RMTX457, as someone else stated, stay away from the shop that told you 3.55.

And if these questions aren't answered easily.... What size were the stock tires? How are you using the vehicle? Highway driving? Flat or hill terrain?
Obviously, there is a noticeable performance loss. But... how bad is it. Is it a PITA or does it just plain suck.

You have 4:56 gears on your truck... I have the same exact model and 5-speed and I have been wondering the same question? about the gearing... From what I have heard though on a bunch of other boards is that 4:88 is what you want to go with for 33"s. L8R
