just got a 2005 Double Cab and when you put it in low range, there is a beeping noise and it will not quit until you take it out of low range... that is annoying ... is there and easy fix?

Hey guys I hate to tell you but if it is beeping......it is not locked in.
When they are new they can be a pain to get in 4x4 and 4x4 low after awhile it goes in and out easier but like I said if its beeping it is not locked in.

i called the dealership and told them what you said and they laughed... they said its a reminder to let you know 4 low is engaged... i know for certain my 4low works while its beeping... how do you know what your talking about?

You better find a new dealership!
Let me make sure I have this right... in 4x4 low the Tacoma will run about 15 miles per hour in 6th gear and they need to put a beeper in there to tell us its in 4x4 low??? I dont think so!
If its beeping you will also notice the 4x4 light on the dash is also blinking...........like i said earlier this means its not locked in 4x4 low...........just trying to be helpful............
just be sure to post an apology when you figure out that i'm right.

rachunter, just wanted to say thanks... after reading your post, i go to the same toyota dealership and tell them what you have told me. Again, they tell me the same thing they told me before. I become very angry and tell them that i will fill out the new car survey badly if they dont put it on a lift and prove to me that the 4wheel is working. So up on the lift it goes. GUESS WHAT!!!! THE 4WHEEL DRIVE WORKED!!!!! Just wanted to say thanks for making me look like an A$$.
i have the 5sp auto. the green 4wheel drive light does not blink. the yellow 4low light blinks and it beeps to let the driver know your in 4wheel low... its a new thing for the 2005. And also a new truck shouldnt be hard to shift into 4wheel drive when its an electric shifter and an automatic trans.

ok, now everything that rachunter told me is starting to make sense... i have used 4 low now prob 6 times since buying the truck and this last time the 4low light didnt blink nor did it make the beeping sound... when the dealership put it on the lift, it was beeping and the 4 wheel drive DID work...
so i did it over and over and found out this... when i put truck in park and shift into 4low it beeps... when truck is in neutral and put it in 4 low, you have to wait a few seconds and then shift into drive and it will not make the beeping sound...

Hey David,
Your kidding me right!!! When they put your truck on the rack of course the 4x4 worked....but if its beeping that means you are NOT in 4 low. 4 high will still be working but 4 low in not properly engaged if it is beeping.
This is a very simple thing and if you dont believe me call toyota because your dealer does not seem to know anything. Anytime something beeps or blinks that is not a good thing.

yeah it actually was working and i really dont know how... because everything your saying is correct... now i have learned that it takes a short period of time for the transfer case to engage... i really dont know how it was working while it was on the lift... i have also had to use it while in mud and both tires did work... again dont ask me how... i was prob tearing something up??? but i do know what your talking about... it takes a while to get the transfer case to engage properly... now my truck doesnt beep...
i also agree that i do need to find another dealership...

got stuck this weekend and my front tires were spinning and it was beeping... So i decided to call another dealership and finally found someone at a dealership that knows what they are talking about... i was shifting the selector switch to quickly... have to wait for 4high to engage then go to 4low...

There is a card on the driver's side visor that explains the whole thing... If it beeps, it isn't locked.
