"why are the plug wires for tacos so expensive"
What makes you think they need to be replaced? The quality of these factory(or aftermarket high end) are very high. Unlike the crap the US automakers put on their vehicles. Toyota wires should last 200k.
Snorkle? You'd be better off spending the time properly venting and routing the diff breathers.

Unbolt the cat and check if you can hear anything rattling around and can see through it. It may be blown or just clogged up. Adding a snorkle is a great idea even for a wknd worrier. It not only helps keep your engine safe it also acts as a fully funcional air-ram it increased the throttle response and added a couple of MPG's(but nothing huge)

For the snorkle contact Rocky-Road Outfitters my contact there his name is Sean. They will have the lowest price and awesome customer service. When you go to install the snorkle make sure you follow the instructions even as far as buying a stepdown drill bit(this handy tool made it a LOT easier) and get the correct hole saw bit a center punch. Take the template and line it up (do not remove the fender until you cut the big hole for the snorkle) Also the Sharpie is your friend. After you cut the big hole insert the snorkle and then mark the holes for the A-Pillar(this is the only complicated part of the install) you have to have them a tiny bit off-center(just a little more away from the windshield) after marking the holes take the center punch AND LIGHTLY set the marks. Then use the stepdown bit. Other than that just make sure you seal all the connections with silicon. As for plugs and wires do yourself and your rig a favor and stay with factory one's YES they are more $ but look at it this way the wires are designed to last up to the life of the vehicle (usually around 100k) you get what you paid for and your truck will run better with them reguardless of what others may say aftermarket wires just don't cut it. I see this everyday of the work week.

I agree with going with factory wires...i bought some wires from oreiley and they crapped out within a month...i bought some factory ones and haven't had a problem with 50,000 miles....
you get what you pay for.

Stew 200K miles for plug wires No way, engine compartment heat will degrade them in 60K or so. Not saying they won't work at all, but they won't be up to snuff. I don't know why Taco wires would be expensive, or what you consider expensive. But OEM wires for a 22R are reasonable enough to replace them every other tune up at least. As for a snorkle, unless you do a lot of deep water crossings, ditto the above advice.

For the Tacoma wires they're around $65.00 for either the 4 or 6cyl. fourwd1 is correct about the life of fac. wires. I stated 100k because that's how long mine lasted before the #4 went bad. The others were ok but still needed to be replaced. As for the snorkle my opinion is this. If your gonna install a intake it may as well be one that has an actual off-road function as well as adding a couple of ponies, improved throttle response, a few extra MPG's and best and most important of all help keep you from hydro locking your engine

"200K miles for plug wires " Yeah, I exagerated a little...ok...alot. My main point was the quality of the factory Toy wires. I used to buy those pretty yellow, big fat excell wires. 'bout the only thing they are good for is chrome engine compartments. I've also had more problems with aftermarket "sets" of wires for "specific" vehicles, that the lengths provided are just severly wrong! Stew
