Hey guys. I came on here a while back all excited about getting back into the Toyota world. Well, I finally got my Taco . Shes a 97’ ext-cab, 5 spd with the 2.7. I have big plans a few years down the road, but for now this truck is my only vehicle and I want keep it somewhat economical and reliable. I’ve been looking into locking the rear and have some questions that I cant find answers to by searching old posts or on other websites. I’ve been looking into an auto locker (lock rite, power trax or aussie locker) mostly due to budget and my mechanical ability. The thing is that I do a lot of driving in the snow. What are people experiences with driving in the snow with an auto locker, are they overly sensitive? Also, beyond the brands I mentioned, are there any other reputable companies, any pros and cons of each? Cheers!

Congrats! And welcome back to the Toy world.
As to your locker Q the lock-rite isn't too bad Aussie is really starting to make a name for itself. I haven't heard any complaints as of yet. I've never used Power trax or know anyone who has so I have no opinion there. As for driving in the snow they are all on the touchy side you really have to pay attention to what your doing. If you don't go wheeling to often it's possible that a good limited slip dif might work well for that application.

I too am a new Taco owner, after taking a hiatus for a year. Picked up an 06, 4x4 TRD Off-road package, Access cab, 6-sp, towing package. This is the truck I wish the 01 was.....I love everything they did with the truck, access cab opening doors, bed rail system, 400watt electrically outlet, towing package, radio controls in the steering wheel....everything.
Previous truck was an 01 Pre-runner, and prior to that I had an 82 4x4, that I bought in 86 and drove for 10 years. I miss that truck as I would love to turn it into a rock crawler now.
Anyway, congrats on the new Taco and have fun building her up.
