I have a 4x4 96' Tacoma that has the 3.4v6 that is stock and I want to put a 4" suspension lift on it with 33X12.50 on 15x10 rims. It has the (ADD) and I wanted to know if it is absolutely necessary to convert to manual hubs. I want to eventually convert to manual hubs and I know offroad solutions makes a kit. I just want to know If I have to swith to put on a 4" lift or if I can wait and do the conversion when I have some more money. I also wanted some opinions on what lift to get. I was looking at either the procomp or the fabtech. Thanks.

The lift puts the axle shafts at a greater angle than stock, an angle that puts more stress on the CV joints. With the hubs unlocked the axle shafts won't rotate while you're driving, reducing wear and stress on the CV joints.

I understand that the axle would be under more stress. I just want to know if it is at all possible to lift it 4" without converting to manual hubs. I hear from some people that you can and heard from others that you can't lift a Tacoma higher then 2.5" without converting to the manual hubs. I plan on converting I just wanted to get the lift first.

You should be able to lift it but don't wait too long to change to manual and defiantly don't off road. Downey makes a conversion kit

The guy I bought my 96 taco from did the manual hub conversion himself using warn hubs and 4cyl truck parts. Apparently it needs the 4cyl rotors. Not sure what else it would take but doesnt sound too hard.
