I recently came across 4 thousand dollars i plan to sink into my 02 tacoma. it already has a 3" body lift and 33 bfg at's not i'm trying to decide what to buy next i'm thinking the 6" fabtech lift some 4:88 gears and a new bumper and winch. I can do most of the work myself besides the gears. i know i'm looking at about a 1 grand for the gears and about 2 for the lift and thats leacves 1 for the bumper and winch. But my question is. is their a better buy for my buck in the lift department. I do mainly mild trail rides nothing to bad and it's a DD. seeing as a i still have 10k to pay on it. But any adice would be appreciated

Send check to snorkleman@freemoney.com for a total of $4000... Man I am getting tooo old for these topics. At first I was thinking yeah you should totally get the lift, bumper, winch, tires, lockers, and whatever else you can afford. Then you mentioned you owe $10k on the truck still. Bah humbug, the mature old guy in me says pay down your debt or put that money into savings with low yeild interest. I guess the point is never forget about your future. I spent a shat load of money on trucks when I was single. Now I have two kids, a nice house, two cars, motorcycle, and I think about how better off I would be now if I had taken some of that money and invested or purchased something that paid me back..like land, or something that increases in value over time...NOT LIKE A TRUCK. Just remember you never get back what you put into it (except for fun when off roading - which can be priceless and hella expensive) ON THE OTHER HAND - Come on keep reading its just getting fun. I also believe in buying stuff for your truck that you are going to use. The day I bought a brush guard for my first truck I introduced it to some brush that same day. I also used it to push two cars while in the ghetto (requested service), and damn near bent the thing to pieces before replacing it. I then bent it back and sold it. On the OTHER OTHER hand (whatever the hell that is), I dig big sick trucks built to the nines with all the right gear. But what I typically see is that those are old guys with enough money to burn or some young bucks with parents who have expendable income for their kids to learn lessons with. I ain't bitchin as my folks bought me my first car and I am highly grateful. And the POINT to this rambling... Spend that money wisely. If you think you can do a lot with $4k think about what you could do with $8k if you invested it or did something that paid you back (and no buying some crack and selling it at college doesn't count). Buy something which will make your truck more capable and then do what you think best with the rest. Just my old geezer $0.02... For a lift you might check around at some used 6" lifts for the taco. Some guys who go SAS try to get rid of them and I had a buddy sell a pricey lift for a few hundred. Cheers

Spend it all today, there may be no tommorow ;D
j/k
I'd just add a locker into the formula in place of the bumper. You'll save $ doing the locker when you do the gears, instead of later.

i guess i should have been more detailed. I already have an electric locker in the back that came with the trd package. if i regear it;s becomes useless huh? i never thought about that i need to rethink everything now. but after a lil consideration i think i'm going to do a high quality 3in lift and a bull bumper and winch and call it a truck. Cause i was thinking about but a beater just i'm in an apt. right now so.. it's kinda hard to have that sitting in the parking lot people get angry :-D. so i'll probally end up only spending 2 g and the other 2 will go to pay off the truck so that way both the old fogey in me and the a-hole young kid in me are both happy. but more research will be done before i make a finnlay call
