I recently bought a 2002 tacoma 4cyl and I was told by one mech to have the chain done at 100k and the other said to leave it if its not making noise.
Also does it have a chain or belt and which has to be changed at what mileage?

I haven't looked into the newer TOYs mush so I'm not completely sure, but it should have a timing chain and should be replaced every 70-80,000 miles if it's a single chain. If it's a double chain then they will usually outlast the vehicle and handle all the high performance demands that you may require.
