99 4Runner Limited, v6. The check engine light keeps coming on. I had the codes read and it came up with a PO171 which they said was 'System Too Lean Bank 1'. The parts store said to replace the oxygen sensor before the cat. I changed it and the light comes back on after about 20 miles. The truck seems to run fine. It has 77k miles. Any ideas what this could be. I don't want to keep changing parts.

If the CE light comes back on. Have them put the scanner back on it. You can also disconnect the battery for awhile and this is another way to reset the ECU. Try both before you have it scanned.

My 99 Tacoma has the same issue. Have you tried cleaning the MAF sensor with some break cleaner??

No not the sensor itself but the inner part of the tube has been cleaned. The way things have been going it will probably blow on me lol

I would suggest taking the sensor out and there is a little capacitor or resistor looking thing that's an amber color. If you look at it one side will look dirty from air being sucked in, just spray it lightly with some brake cleaner and it will clean it up for you.

BurntOrngeLonghorn is correct the resistor inside the MAF gets covered in dirt or whatever and does not read correctly and causes code P0171, i run into this code at work and thats exactly how i fix it.

;D Rocking Post..I usually follow the SWAGO(Swap Out w/ A Good One) rule because it's what I do when fixing things at work..but a little quick dry electrical cleaner into the MAF sensor and she was running like a top again...saved me 90 bucks give or take
