Does anyone know of some good places to go wheeling around Humboldt County. I know that some of you guys were talinking about the Shasta area but I'm really looking for something around Humboldt. There's got to be more than just river bars (nothing to challenging on the river bar). Thanks.

itall depends on where your willing (or able ) to go! we sometimes hit some fun logging trails off of cutten or even horse mountain can be really fun.. just a little snowy right now!!!!! fernbridge can be a whole lot of fun and if you drive out a ways south into the dairy land you hit the river bar and there are a whole lot of trails, rocky climbs and murky mud holes...

Thanks for the info. I happen to be a regular under Fernbridge and out by the race track (out Grizzly Bluff). I've explored some of the logging roads but never thought of Horse Mountain. I've wheeled the crap out of the Eel River from around Rio Dell out to the mouth in Loleta. Anyway, where you at up there? Maybe we could go wheelin when I'm up there for Spring break.

there are lots!a few i know- if you pass hansens going south, just past alton on the right is a turnoff(small) that leads to a gate(90% of time open). leads into gravel yard. go under bridge and follow the RIGHT(dont go left ever ) after leaving bridge. pretty open. if your a local, im sure you know of centerville for sand, but probably dont atempt alone. there also is shively/larabie/holmes flat area, you can use the summer bridges in summer , the backroads take a while... but riverbars are awesome if you know them, and the logging roads go almost to 36. if your in larabie, you can follow larabie creek for miles... what kinda 'yota u drive?

Sometimes I come off of the river at the gravel yard past Hansen's. I'll go in on the Ferndale side of the Eel, cross it and the Van Duzen (Sp?), then come out at the gravel yard. If you didn't notice, my username is EelRiverMobbin, meaning that I am a local on the river bar scene. I know what you mean about Centerville, I almost lost my 4runner to the ocean one night. Oh well. I rock a 1990 SR5 4runner and am a Ferndale local. However, I'm down south in school right now. Maybe I'll see you out on the trails this Summer.

Damn! Too bad I'm currently 13hrs away and pledging a fraternity. Oh well, at least I'll have plenty of beer . If you do go wheeling, go to Ferndale and take Grizzly Bluff Rd./Blueslide (sp?). A little way down the road there will be a fairly large righthand turn w/a dirt road that keeps going straight. Take the dirt road and it will lead you to my favorite part of the river bar. The wheeling isn't that difficult (unless it's muddy) but it is fun to dick around there for awhile.
