Hey Guys
After paroozing the board a bit, I saw some posts where guys were wondering how tall of a tire they could fit. One of the questions I saw was "How tall is a 325/75 16?". I was thinking that a writeup in the FAQ section would help with these questions.
In the metric tire sizing method, the sizing breaks down as follows:
Using 325/75R16 as an example, the 325 represents the aspect ratio in millimeters. The 75 is the percentage of sidewall hieght to section width and the 16 is the rim diameter in inches.
With our 325/75R16, the coversion to inches would be as follows:
1) Divide the section width by 304.8, then mutiply by 12. This gives us the section width is inches.
325/304.8x12= 12.8"
2) Multiply the section width by the aspect ratio to give us the sidewall hieght.
12.8x0.75= 9.6"
3) Multiply the sidewall height by 2 and add the rim diameter.
9.6x2= 19.2 19.2+16= 35.2
Using the example, a 325/75R16 would be approximatly the same size as a 35-12.5 R16.
To convert a regular tire size to metric, you simply reverse the process.
I hope this can help some guys out.

Thanks! I have some of that out there in the articles section under info/gears. There is a tire conversion there, but it does not calc width.
Thanks for the info - I think I'll incorporate that to the page!

I'm not doubting this just trying to understand it but last week I ordered a set of bfg's 35" for another guy at work and goodyear said that 315 is their 35" and 325 is 36"
