I've googled it and I really didn't get anything but pics of 2 people with home made snorkels. Once made it out of a Gutter tuber and some duct tape, the other made it out of ABS Plastic pipe on his pathfinder. It seems pretty simple but I was wondering if anyone else had attempted to make one of their own.

Thanks for the help. I think I'm going to try that last link and have it come up through my bed. I'll put up pics once it gets done!

I have a carbed '83 Toy, and I'm thinking about doing a 'velocity stack' straight up through the hood: a length of PVC pipe of the right size to fit the carb's air-cleaner diameter, then a hole in the hood for the pipe to stick through. Attach the air cleaner to the pipe and you're done. Since I'm not gonna do any serious water crossings I'll probably make the pipe just long enough to get the filter above the hood; it'll give the truck an interesting look, and provide tons of cool air to the mill.

If you live in an area where it actually rains, you may need a shroud. Many with the ARB system simply turn the shroud backwards when its raining. You'll be putting extra water into the carb without it.

I now turn it sideways facing across the windshield.

Yours should be inside the cab... You've encountered more mud and water while rock crawling than anyone I know... ;D

I go play on the rocks and some how I keep getting it covered in it. With all the dents I was beginning to think that my rig was more of a tree hugger. I guess she's just another pig and wants to wallup in the mud. ;D

My buddy just made a real cheap homemade snorkel for his 1983. His carby was the kind that was designed to attach to an air intake, so it was that much easier. He connected it to the vents at the top of the hood just below the windshield on the drivers side, using some dryer tubing and a lot of silicone. It obviously isn't as high as a regular snorkel, but it is a cheap way to slightly improve on the stock way. I will get a picture and post it as soon as i can

I MADE ONE FOR A "SAMMY" I USED TO HAVE. FIRST I PULLED THE WEBER CARB. OFF. AND USED THE OLD GASKET AS A TEMPLATE. I TOOK A COOKIE TIN ( CHRISTMAS COOKIES COME IN THEM) CUT OUT THE BOTTOM AND MADE A HOLE IN THE SIDE TO MOUNT A TUBE. USED PAPER GASKETS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE TIN AND REMOUNTED THE CARB. THEN I PUT THE TUBE IN THE HOLE ON THE SIDE AND RAN IT THROUGH THE FIREWALL IN BEHIND THE GLOVEBOX. THEN PUT THE LID ON THE COOKIE TIN. MADE A AIR TIGHT SEAL AND SOUNDED PRETTY GOOD TOO.

OOPS, USED THE BASE OF THE K&N FILTER AS THE TEMPLATE & MOUNTED THE COOKIE TIN TO THE TOP OF THE CARB. IT WAS ABOUT 8 YEARS AGO AND I SUFFER FROM C.R.S.
