I've had two sets of LTB's so far and have few complaints. You'll get used to the noise and the cold morning flat spots mighty quick. Be forewarned that they will be difficult to balance.
Now....as for interstate-ability....I drove on my 34x10.5's from Minnesota to Oregon and back....yep....that's 4500 miles in all...with few ill effects. I know they wear fast, but if you can get 25,000 miles out of them, you're money ahead. Mud tires don't last long on the highway...none of them...the better they do offroad, the worse they'll wear. However, they're cheap and perform fantastically offroad.
BTW...on that trpi the tiers got warm...hot even...but it wasn't horrible. It was not the least bit uncomfortable to put your hand on the tire, even after 1200 miles of driving, the only stops being for gas, food, and to pee. Just run them at the correct pressure...that find balance between high pressures for extended life and lower perssures to avoid burning the center tread patch off right away. For me that's 26-28 psi of nitrogen, but it will be different for everyone.
