I just got my first 4Runner, and it's a '90. I want to be able to fit 32" tires but how big of a lift to i need and what do you recomend for not too much money. And what do you think about suspension spacers? are they safe and how much are those?

I had 31's on mine when I bought it with no lift. 32's should be no problem. I would probably get a set of downey or all pro coils which will give you an inch and half in the rear and solve the sag you likley have there. Then for the front some aftermarket torsions bars which can be cranked up with less problem then stock ones. That or a 1 or 2 inch body lift, which would be the cheaper route.

I just put a 2" body lift on my pickup and the stability is fine. I wouldn't worry about that. I can't speak for 3" body lifts, but I can't imagine 1" making much of a difference.

If you can afford a suspension lift, then definitely go with that, but if not, then a body lift work. I am in college, where money is tight, so a body lift was the way I had to go if I wanted to fit 33's.

In all honesty, I fail to see the advantage of a suspension lift on an IFS rig wanting to run 33's. What does it give you? Most kits drop the diff down to maintain proper cv joint angles so any clearance gained comes from tire size. There is nothing wrong with a short body lift, especially on a rig that has no suspension lift to make the cog obnoxiously high. It can actually be an advantage in tucking up low hanging items like the t-case and gas tank, but those are much more complicated mods.
Better to save your money for mods that will take you farther down the trail like lockers, a winch, body armour and a SAS then waste big cash on a lift that does'nt function better then stock. Of course if you got a deal on a good cheap used lift that would be a different story.

;D I'm w/Sean. Once you realize that a 4" IFS "lift" just drops things 4", it seems like a silly idea. Especially for $1000+! There's a pic on 4Crawlers site of a 2nd Gen. Runner w/a 1" b/l, body seam hammered flat, minor trimming, airing it out on 33's! So, I know it can be done. I say pick your tire & do what you need to fit it. Later...

Well i talked to a place and they said i would need a 2" body lift for 32" tires and a 4" body lift for 33" tires. do you think a 4" body lift is too much and wont look too good?

Seriously, forget what they told you. Go with the 2' body lift and you should be able to fit 33's with the couple mods 4xfred mentioned. I beleive he is running 33's with a similar set up.

Forget a 4" lift to clear 33's, you don't need that. I have a 2" body lift on my Pickup and I have 33's on 15x8 wheels. I had very minor rubbing in the front when the wheel was turned hard to one side. I could've cleared the tires by cranking the torsion bars, but instead I just bead the fender in a little with a hammer, which isn't noticeable unless you look underneath the truck. There is a pleat/seam where the body runs up to the firewall under the front fenders and that is where I hammered away. Now, I have no rubbing and I think my truck looks good. You can see some pics of it on my website www.cardomain.com/id/mndanielsncsu
