I just got a 88 4runner and am looking at putting new tires on. It's got 31x10 50r15's on it now. I go to the snow a lot but still want a good all around tire that's not afraid of the dirt either...What do you guys recommend?

I have 31 x 10.5 Wild Country TXR's and I'm pretty happy with them. They have good tread for dirt, but drive nice on the highway too. I also drive though the snow with them just fine. I think they'd suit your needs.

I had Wild Country tires on before I got my rims, and they wore out quickly, made lots of noise and wernt that good in the mud. I can't remember what kind of Wild Countrys they were. But now I have BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A. They do great in the snow and mud, and on the highway. These tires were $5 more per tire but they were worth every penny. Plus they look great

Any of the AT (All Terrain) type tires should do the job for snow and mild offroading. Mud Terrain (MT) tread patterns aren't too good in snow unless it's really deep. The large voids that let them unload mud work against you in snow. The BFG is probably one of the best AT tires available.

yep, fourwd1 is right. I run the BFG mud terrains and they can be a little slick in the snow, you could have the mud terrain tires siped. check your local America's\Discount tire co. store. most of their locations have a siping machine. That will give you much better traction in the snow\ice. If you go with an a\t the Bfg is great, also the pirelli scorpion is good.

Hey, just for kicks, check out Green Diamond Tire, they have only one 31" model but the concept is cool. They take used carcasses (inspected) and remold a new tire on to them, plus the tread had industrial diamonds embedded into the tread to give better traction on ice. I have a set of Ultra tractions on my WRX and they kick @ss in the snow and not too bad on pavement too. I was able to go 40 mphs around turns (ok i was going sideways) and 70 mph in the straights at Gingerman race track in Michigan last winter with these tires. (4-6" of snow on the track) However, I do not recommend going fast in normal snowy street conditions. www.greendiamondtire.com/productswis2.html#My 2wd Toy pickup is not so good in the winter (bummer).

if you're looking a re-treads, it might be worth your while to take a look at Eastern Tire. www.easterntire.ns.ca no diamonds in the compound, but they seem to be decent tires, I'm running the Trail Master TDs on my 4Runner and am enjoying myself with the snowstorm yesterday

im gonna put my 2 cents in on the BFG AT. Ive had 3 different sets of AT's and the BFG is by-far the best, mine have seen heavy colorado snow and icy roads and are 100% better then my old AT BFG imitations. I have had them on rocky trails with no problems. Unless youre looking at heavy mudding the AT's are the best all-around tire you could buy, plus they're tough and good lookin.

Agreed. My BFG ATs are great. Since they've upgraded to the KOs, they are even better. They wear great on the road. They aren't very loud either. If I ever SAS, I would get a set of 35 or 37s for my 'street shoes.' Heck, normally I hate any tire with white lettering on it, but I can actually stomach having the white lettering out on mine. My truck had a new set on when I bought it, I wouldn't have mounted them that way, but I can live with it. My less enlightened friends think they look cool that way. ;D
